Guide to Canada's Cannabis Legalization Laws by Province
The Senate voted in favour of Bill C-45, The Cannabis Act, on June 19—an historic date worth celebrating. But when it comes to Canada’s cannabis laws and guidelines, not all provinces and territories will be created equal. While recreational marijuana legalization is implemented on the federal level, it’s up to each province and territory to establish the nitty-gritty details.
Each province and territory is creating legislation pertaining to issues such as minimum age to purchase, where you can consume and who can sell, among other things. Lift & Co. spoke with Jamie Shaw, partner at cannabis consultancy GroundWork and director of the B.C. Independent Cannabis Association, to help break down the best, worst and most bizarre regulations set to be implemented across the country.
